Mrs. DuBois, Special Education Teacher / Case Manager
Please allow me to begin by expressing my sincere excitement for the 2017-18 school year! This is my fourth year as a Special Education Teacher, but my seventh year working at Paradise Honors High School. I have a diverse background in Special Education with all grade levels. I take tremendous pride in experiencing success with special needs students.
Mission and Philosophy
The sole intent of special education is to ensure that every eligible student has access to the general curriculum. Special education is NOT a curriculum separate from the general curriculum. Special education provides an instructional program that will minimize student disability and maximize learning opportunities. Mrs. DuBois holds high expectations for academic performance and demands lofty standards for classroom behavior. The purpose of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) under IDEA is to identify specific services, instructional strategies, resources, and learning objectives for a given child so that he or she may participate in the general curriculum, or develop the skills/competencies needed for participation in the general curriculum. To assure children with disabilities an appropriate education requires unique program planning, teaching methods and techniques, regular and special classes, materials, equipment, and above all, a commitment to meet their unique needs. To accomplish this, the child with disabilities is placed in a flexible classroom environment that allows for full opportunity for inclusion in the mainstream of school activity. That being said, students are expected to exhibit a reciprocal school ethic by working diligently, coming to school everyday, being punctual and well prepared, and behaving appropriately.
